She was born on Tuesday, January 29, 1929, in Natalbany. Mrs. Ortego was a housewife and seamstress. She was a excellent gardener and loved to travel with her husband while he was in the military. Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Ortego; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin Michael and Jo-dee L. Ortego, and Alfred Andrew and Tracy N. Ortego; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Traylor, Stephanie Elizabeth Rahn, Leslie Anne Ortego, Abby Joelle Ortego, and Amelia LaPrairie; 2 great-grandchildren, Savannah Rae Rahn and Sean B. Phillips; and sister, Ruby Sykes. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Ortego; parents, Bertha Pevey and Alfred Sistrunk; and 6 brothers and sisters. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, Monday, January 30, 2012, from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Little River Pentecostal Church Cemetery in Tickfaw. A native of Bordelonville, he is survived by one son, Leonard Ortego of Marrero; four daughters, Linda Ortego and Tammy Taullie, both of Harvey, Darlene Riehm of Marrero and Constance Ortego Duhon of Hammond; and two sisters, Louise Mayeaux of Bordelonville and Camile Ortego of Harvey; five grand-children 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Forrest Ortego; and his mother, Della Armand Ortego. Visitation will be Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church, Bordelonville, from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 10. The Rev. Terry Allen will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery, Bordelonville.
