A resident of Natchez, Miss., he passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Cliffs Plantation Road, on Friday, June 25, 2004, at age 70. He was a 30-year employee of BASF who retired in 1997. A resident of Prairieville for 24 years, he will be sorely missed by his friends he made there. He was born in LaSalle Parish in 1934. He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Renee Otwell of Ponchatoula and Rhonda Terrice Otwell. He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Otwell of Jena; sisters, Bessie Otwell Sanders of Jena and Helen Otwell of Orlando, Fla.; brother-in-law, Milton Garret and wife Kim of Natchez; brother-in-law, John Garret and wife Linda of Clarks; sister-in-law, Melissa Hardwick and husband Mark of Liberty, Miss.; his loving mother-in-law, Mary Garrett of St. Joseph; and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Mary Evelyn Garrett Otwell; and his father, John B. Otwell Sr. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed hunting deer with his brother-in-law, Milton Garrett, at the Turkey Roost Lodge in Natchez. He liked relaxing on his back porch at his home and watching the deer while drinking coffee. He was a generous, dependable man, always there for anyone in his family. Married for 35 years to his beloved wife Evelyn, and though parted by her death in May 2000, their love endured. They will lie together now for eternity and await God's call. The family thanks the many friends and associates and fellow church members for their prayers. Many thanks for the care of Dr. Ted Hudspeth, Hammond; Dr. Richard Byrd, Baton Rouge, and the staff of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
