She was 57 and a native of Ponchatoula. Visiting at New Life Christian Fellowship, Prairieville, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. Religious service at the church at 1 p.m. Saturday, conducted by Freddie E. Allen Sr. Interment in Brittany Community Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Herman Payton Sr.; two daughters, Jeanetta Hills and Karen Brown; three sons, Paul Hills Sr. and wife Lynda, Karl Brown and Willie Brown III; four sisters, Diane Kinchen, Joyce Berry and husband George, Carolyn Stokes and Ivory Lewis; brother, Robert Cook and wife Laverne; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elnora Hills; father, Leonard Burnes; and Alma Stokes, who was like a mother to her.
