Died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was 82, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Independence. Visitation at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Independence, from 9 a.m. Saturday until religious services at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jack Nutter. Interment in Colonial Cemetery, Independence. Survived by two daughters, Mary Jane Thompson, Independence, and Kathleen Billeaud, Biloxi, Miss.; two sons, Louis Pechon Jr., Charleston, S.C., and David Alton Pechon, Independence; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, James A. Childers, New Orleans. She was a member of the Independence Italian-American Cultural Association, Mater Dolorosa Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and Halimah Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.
