OSCAR RAMON "This is Oscar who loved the world" He passed away at 4:10 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2010 at St. Theresa Hospital in Metairie, LA. He was born November 18, 1938 in Camaguey, Cuba. Age 71 years. Dr. Pereda came to the United States in 1962. He graduated Medical School in 1970 from University of Zaragoza School of Medicine in Zaragoza, Spain. He finished his internship at Mt. Sinai in Miami, Florida and then completed his residency and cardiology fellowship at Tulane School of Medicine. He was Chief of Staff and President of the Medical Staff at Mercy Hospital in New Orleans in 1987. He was a member of and a Past President of The Musser-Burch Society. He was also a past Member of the Louisiana State Medical Society and Orleans Parish Medical Society and a member of AOPA. He was in private practice in New Orleans for more than 30 years until Hurricane Katrina moved him and his family to Kentwood where he resumed practicing medicine with his friend and partner, Dr. Carlton S. Faller. He was also an accomplished pilot and loved to fly with his best friend, the late Dr. Mohammad Shaik. He leaves behind his wife, Laurie M. Pereda, Kentwood; his children, Oscar F. Pereda and his wife, Robin, Clermont, France, Ramon E. Pereda, Los Angeles, CA, Maria P. Pereda, New Orleans, Michelle M. Pereda, Kentwood, Olivia A. Pereda, Kentwood; step-daughter, Amanda M. DiGiovanni, Kentwood; 2 granddaughters, Anna and Sofia Pereda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Ofelia Pereda; brother, Ramon Pereda. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 with religious services at 5:30 p.m. Services conducted by Rev. Percy Frazier.
