Burial was in Ponchatoula Cemetery. Mr. Peter died Tuesday, June 5, in Seventh Ward General Hospital. Survivors are a brother, John H. Betty Jo was born in Greensburg and after her marriage to Joseph W. Peter, they moved to Hammond, where she resided until her death. She worked at Lallie Kemp Hospital for twenty years and retired as Communication Supervisor. Betty Jo was always the "hospitality host" and enjoyed creating a lifetime of memories with her family and friends where conversation, passing a good time, and laughter was always abundant. Betty Jo's two most precious treasures were her two grandsons, Rhett Joseph and Hunter Nicholas Street. Betty Jo is survived by her beautiful, selfless and loving daughter, Tammy Jo Peter Street and her caring and loyal husband, Keith Street. She is also survived by a nephew, Scott Lindsey of St. Augustine, Florida, and a niece, Lara Lindsey Dugas, of Gonzales, and many other special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Peter; her parents, Robert and Irene Brabham Lindsey; a sister, Shirley Lindsey; and five brothers, T. W., Alton, Lamar, James, and Huey Lindsey. Visitation is scheduled at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, from 6 - 9 p.m., on Monday, April 20, 2009, and after 8 a.m. until the Funeral Home Chapel services at 10:30 a.m., with Deacon Wallace Gainey officiating. He was born Sept. 27, 1930, in New Orleans to the late William Frederick and Deola Marie LeBlanc Peter. Ernie served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married Dorothy Lillian Arnold on June 3, 1951, in Hammond. He was an accountant and audit manager for the state of Louisiana. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by five children, Susan Peter of Bentonville, Ark., Cynthia Peter of Pittsburg, Pa., Gary Peter and wife Susan Renee of Boise, Idaho, Kathy Jean Orpin and husband David of Bella Vista, and Michael Peter and wife Sheila of Goldonna; two brothers, Frederick Peter of Tickfaw and Joseph Peter of Hammond; a sister, Eva Shirley of Prescott, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, on Friday, April 20, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Interment in Arnold Cemetery. She was 77 years old. She was the wife of the late Louis M. Peter. Mrs. Peter is survived by her two sons and their wives, Stephen L. and Cheryl L. Peter and Keith M. and Carol S. Peter. Her grand- children are Katie Chandler, Brian Peter, Sarah Peter and Aaron Peter. Her great-grandchildren are Lauren Chandler and Brian L. Peter. Also survived by brothers, Clarence, Ray and Arthur Lamping. Mrs. Peter was the daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Milton Lamping. Mrs. Peter was born in Vernonia, Ore., and resided in Madisonville. Mrs. Peter gave many years of devoted service to the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Guild and to the St. Joseph Altar Society at St. Anselm Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Anselm Catholic Church, Madisonville. Interment in Ponchatoula Cemetery, Ponchatoula. A very loving and devoted husband, Joe left this earthly dwelling survived by his beautiful wife, Betty Joe Lindsey Peter; his one-in-a-million daughter and her husband, Tammy Jo and Keith Street; and his most precious grandsons, Rhett Joseph and Hunter Nicholas Street. He is also survived by his brother, Frederick Lewis Peter, Albany; sister, Eva P. Shirley, Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, William Frederick and Deola LeBlanc Peter; his sisters, Claire P. Roberts and Mildred Sherman; and his brother, Ernest J. Peter. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from the state after working at the Hammond State School as business administrator for 23 years and JTPA as an auditor for 10 years. Joe was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, American Legion Post 109, Independence, and Knights of Columbus, Hammond. An avid sports lover and selfless volunteer, Joe coached Little Conference football in Hammond for more than 17 years and always kept track of the former players by reading every line of the sports section in the newspaper. Joe's family was the most important aspect of his life and he loved life most of all because he shared it with them.
