She was born on March 12, 1945, in Houma, daughter of the late J.W. and Mattie Price Stevens. Darlene was a wonderful, loving wife and awesome mother for three sons and seven grandchildren. She was a gifted and multi-talented person. Her talent was evident in anything she did. She served as organist for many years at the First Baptist Church of Hammond, and participated as organist in numerous weddings all across the Hammond area. She was a talented artist and crafts person who could sew and mend anything and the best cook we knew. Mom worked hard to provide a great place for her children to grow. She was famous in our neighborhood for always having a big pot of something on the stove with enough for us, and everyone in the neighborhood to enjoy. She is survived by her husband, Terry Pettigrew; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lance and Katherine, their children, Tyler and Anna Pettigrew, Darren and Tracy, their children, Jacob and Landon Pettigrew, and Bryan and Amy, their children, Emily, Allison, and Bryan Todd Pettigrew. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond on Monday, Aug. 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting will continue at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 5, after 8 a.m. until the 10 a.m. service.
