He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was a retired electrical engineer for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. He was a member of Franklinton Lodge F&AM 101 and Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. Survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lavern Pettitt of Mount Hermon and James and Irma Pettitt of Franklinton; a sister and brother-in-law, Charline and Fitzhugh Stafford of Franklinton; five nieces; a nephew; and special friends, Cheryl and Chuck Willey of Mount Hermon. He was preceded in death by father, Murphy G. Pettitt; mother, Lula Mae Schilling Pettitt; a sister, Erma Lee Pettitt Miller; and a brother-in-law, Glen Miller. Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, with Masonic service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue in the chapel from noon until funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. R.C. Branch and Glen Miller officiating. She was 76 and a native of Tangipahoa Parish. Visiting at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Visiting at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Denham Springs Stake, from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Friday, conducted by Brother Robert Bradford. Graveside services in Pettitt Family Cemetery, Gillsburg, at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Survived by a daughter, Patricia Jordan, Walker; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Donna Pettitt, Walker, Tim and Liana Pettitt, Randolph, N.J., and Tom and Josette Pettitt, Satsuma; two sisters, Doris Sweatt, Hammond, and Brenda Bankston, Bolivar; six brothers, Harold Bankston, Amite, Billy Bankston and Johnny Bankston, both of Covington, Curtis Bankston and Sidney Bankston, both of Bolivar, and Hollis Bankston, Arcola; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Beria Erwin Pettitt; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Jordan.
