He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with Company L 327th Glider Infantry in the European and African theaters. He was a retired machine operator. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond on Monday from noon until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., celebrated by the Rev. Ed Everitt. Interment will follow in Rose Memorial Cemetery in Hammond. He is survived by his son, Bryan Joseph Plantago and his wife, Pam; five sisters, Mary McKnight, Josephine Sughero, Ann Luksa, Catherine Plantago and Lauretta Wagner and her husband, Walter; and a brother-in-law, James Loechner. Ignatius was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances Mercante Plantago; brother, John Plantago; and sisters, Rose Wrobel, Crucifix Luksa and Frances Loechner. Pallbearers will be Emile Mercante, Bruce McKnight, John Wrobel, Donald Mercante, David Fugarino and Andrew Mercante.
