She was born in Summit, Miss., on Sept. 24, 1919. A longtime resident of Kentwood until 1999, she was preceded in death by Hal Pledger, her husband of 53 years; parents, T.C. and Lizzie Lofton Lewis; infant daughter, Susan Mary Pledger; and brother, Cass Lewis. She leaves behind three children and their spouses, Melinda and Craig Huss, Decatur, Ill., Jim and Nancy Pledger, Natchitoches, and Ray Pledger, Houston; six grandchildren and spouses, Sally and Kevin Withers, Tulsa, Okla., Joe and Tiffany Pledger, Dallas, Trent Pledger, Natchitoches, Alan and Katie Huss, La Porte, Ind., David Huss, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Tom Huss, Lexington, Ky.; two great-grandchildren, Nicky and Mary Huss; two brothers and their wives, Floyd and Jimmie Lewis, Maryville, Tenn., and Billy and Betty Lewis, Mayfield, Ky.; sister-in-law, Helen Tycer Lewis, New Orleans; and 14 nieces and nephews. She graduated from high school in McComb, Miss., and from Mississippi State College for Women in 1939. She was a stalwart member of Kentwood First Baptist Church for more than 50 years who always put Christ first, others second and herself third. Beloved by all who knew her, she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Visitation was held at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from noon until religious services at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4. Services were conducted by the Rev. Gibbie McMillan. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood. Memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church, Kentwood, and Imboden Living Centers, Decatur.
