She was employed as a stenographer at the Illinois Central Railroad and as a bookkeeper at the Marion Fannaly Frozen Food plant. Betty met Hollis on a blind date in April, 1947 and later married him on December 27, 1947. She was the love of his life. Betty and Hollis moved to Colorado and later back to Louisiana. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She was a room mother for all her children during their school years. She instilled in her children the zest for knowledge and the capacity for love. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Rosary Altar Society. She loved to travel, make strawberry jam, solve cross-word puzzles, and crochet. Betty and Hollis raised strawberries for over 45 years, and at the height of their farming they harvested strawberries from 120,000 strawberry plants. Betty is often remembered packing strawberries with her friends in the packing shed. One cannot forget the chatter and laughter that was a large part of the enterprise. In 2013, Betty and Hollis were inducted into the Strawberry Festival Row of Fame. An environmentalist ahead of her time, Betty was a member of CFACTS (Citizens for a Clean Tangipahoa) and was also part of the "Maw-Maw's and Paw-Paw's Fruit Orchard" crew that adopted and regularly cleaned a 1-mile section of Hwy 51. Betty loved her church family and was a wonderful neighbor. She had an invincible spirit and a will to live. She brought joy to many and made each feel special. The family wishes to thank all those who cared and prayed for her over the past 10 years during her heroic battle with multiple myeloma cancer. She fought with grace and dignity, and won that battle today. She is the true "Miracle Mom," and we are honored to have been part of her life. "Sixty-five years ago, you were my Christmas present.
