"Be exalted, O God, Above the Heavens! Let Your Glory be over all the earth!" Psalm 57:5. Sidney Armond Poirrier passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011. He was 88, a resident of Denham Springs and a native of Ponchatoula. He retired from Exxon with 34 years of service, proudly served in World War II and the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He served from 1943 to 1946 in World War II in the 249th Combat Engineers Battalion under Gen. George Patton at the Battle of the Bulge and with the occupation forces in Germany. He received three battle stars and numerous medals. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Stephen Reeves, of Denham Springs; two grandchildren, Tracy Reeves and husband, Jim Smith, and Kim Denise and husband, Teddy Carpenter, of San Antonio, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Jesse, Joshua Horton, and Jessica Horton and husband, Kyle Perron, Dal and wife, Arienoa Carpenter, Brandon, Brittany, Cody and Cameron Carpenter; two brothers, Armond Pete Jr. and wife, Esther Poirrier, of Baton Rouge, and Wayne and wife, Linda Hill, of Galvez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Gaynell Bourque Poirrier; and parents, Armond P. Sr. and Estelle Hodgeson Hill; and stepmother, Alice Nickens. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. until services in the chapel at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. Terry Booth. Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Stephen Reeves, Jim Smith, Wayne Hill, Jesse Horton, Joshua Horton and Johnny Horton. Honorary pallbearers are Erwin Blum, Tommy Guerin and C. C. Harold. Special thanks to Sylvia Palermo, Dee and Glenn Easterly, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughnadour, Gene Cobb (cousin) and the V.A.
