She was 84, a native of Plaquemine and a former longtime resident of Ponchatoula. She was engaged in counseling alcohol and substance abusers for more than 27 years and helped many thousands find recovery, although she held no official certification. Visiting at Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday, celebrated by the Rev. Eric Gyan. Burial in Grace Memorial Park. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Tom Fraser, Baytown; a son, Joseph Alvey Polotzola, Amite; a sister and brother-in-law, Chee and Dena LeBlanc, Baton Rouge; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Earl J. Hernandez and Jerry J. and Mildred Hernandez, all of Plaquemine; three grandchildren, Marie Engle, Highland, Texas, and Sherry Albrado and Ben Fraser, both of Baytown; and four great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Joe Polotzola; parents, Joseph Alvey and Marie Lelia White Hernandez; a brother, Paul Hernandez; and a sister, Pearl Landrum. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations be made to a local hospice. ***************************************************************************
