The Amite, LA resident was born on September 29, 1930 and was married to John David Ponder Sr. for 56 years. Jo Ann graduated from Amite High School and received her B.A. from Southeastern Louisiana University. She was retired from the State of Louisiana Department of Social Services. She was also an active member of the Amite-Arcola Presbyterian Church. She is survived by four children, Julie T. Ponder, Amite, Amos L. Ponder, Amite, Katy Ponder Taylor and husband, Mark, of Orange, TX and Phillip Ponder, Amite. She is also survived by eight grand- children, David and Elena Walker, Julia Walker, John and Kim Bittola, Devin Walker, Tara Ponder, Mark Glen Taylor, Annmarie Taylor, and Matthew Taylor, and three grandchildren, David and Christopher Walker, and Charlotte Bittola. She was preceded in death by parents, Warren B. and Josephine Votaw Leatherman, and two sons, John David Ponder, Jr. and George W. L. Ponder. A resident of Amite, he died at 9:25 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite. He was born October 22, 1963 in Baton Rouge and was 49 years of age. He was an avid scuba and cave diver who loved adventures and the outdoors. He was a high school graduate of Amite High School and later attended Louisiana State University and Georgia State University where he majored in computer science and chemistry. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Amite.
