Ralph A. Ponticelli, 42, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in an airplane crash in Columbia, South America. He was a native of Massachusetts and received his formal education in Belen, New Mexico, and graduated in 1978. He attended three military bases and one American dependent school in Verona, Italy. He worked out of the American Embassy in Bogota, Columbia, and was a master sky diver and master scuba diver. In addition to these accomplishments, he was an FAA licensed aircraft mechanic and a licensed pilot. He was also an airborne electronics operator. He is survived by his parents, Gretta and Louis Ponticelli of Hammond; three daughters, Shelby Ponticelli of Hammond and Stepheny and Francesca Ponticelli, both of Panama City, Republic of Panama, South America; one son, Mark Ponticelli of California; and two brothers, Steven Ponticelli of Southington, Conn., and Vance Ponticelli of Hammond. A graveside service will be held in National Cemetery, Biloxi, Miss. The date of the service will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Save The Children Fund ***************************************************************************
