JAROLD LAMAR A resident of Ponchatoula, he died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at his residence. He was 75 and a native of Brownsville, Ala. Visiting at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday. Visiting at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Stanley Day. Interment in Ponchatoula Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Billie Givens Portier, Ponchatoula; a daughter, Sherry Portier Hunt, Atlanta; two sons, Jarold Portier Jr., Hammond, and Alvin Portier, Denham Springs; a stepson, Pete Scalia, Hammond; a sister, Mattie Mae Gordon, Hammond; and 14 grandchildren. She was a life long resident of Ponchatoula where she Married her husband Wilbur Portier and raised her family. She is survived by her three sons, Keith Portier who now lives in Arkansas, Barry, and Desrie Portier who are residents of Ponchatoula and one daughter Linda Starkey of Springfield. She is also survived by one grandson William Starkey, and four granddaughters, Shannon Portier, Huston Tx. and Laura, Amanda, and Abby Portier from Ponchatoula and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Portier, and her parents Desrie, and Usurla Lavigne Gates, and three brothers, Henry, Berhman, and Randolph Gates. Friends will be received Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at the Wesley Chapel 39731 S.
