She was born on Saturday, May 15, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois. Mrs. Powers was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond. Surviving are her first cousins, Catherine Schroeder and family; and Ann Marie Di Prima and family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Powers; parents, Mary Umbra and Vincent Composto; and son, Martin Arthur Powers. Friends will be received Friday, August 14, 2009, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond. John E. Powers, 78 was found dead at his home east of Robert on Wednesday, where he had lived alone for 8 years. He was a native of East Baton Rouge parish. She was a restaurant cook and a native of New Orleans. Survivors include a daughter, Mary J. Joseph; son, Leo Powers; sister, Gloria Powers, all of Amite; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Rosemary Gerace, Elise and Louise Powers and B. Harness; and three brothers, Lorenzo, Emanuel and Anthony Powers, preceded her in death. The Rev.
