She was 89 and a native of Gainesville, Ga. She was born Nov. 22, 1909, and moved to Hammond with her husband and daughter in the early 1930s. Visiting at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday. Religious services at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond. Survived by two grandsons, Scott Smith, Rogers, Ark., and Cleve Smith, Bland, Va.; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie and Purcella Smith. Preceded in death by husband, B.C. Purcell; a daughter, Lola Sue Purcell Smith; and parents, Ernest and Sarah Johnson Roper. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Hammond. He was born in Arcola and lived in Shreveport before residing in Chandler for two years. He was a retired salesman for janitorial supplies. He is survived by his wife, Anne Marie Purcell; one son, Philip Michael Purcell; one stepson, Richard G. Bartholomew; five grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. A private service was held under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home, Tyler, Texas.
