Friends may call for a gathering at noon until time of service. Mrs. Putnam was born Nov. 8, 1924, to the union of George A. and Winnie Day, in Dardenell, Ark., and passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, in Baton Rouge. She married James D. Putnam on Christmas Eve in 1948 and remained married until his death in 1985. Lucy lived in Ferriday and Hammond and eventually moved to Baton Rouge where she had lived for the past 32 years. She worked as a bank teller at Delta Bank, Ferriday, for 11 years before moving to Hammond. Her life was devoted to her family. She was a very generous person who was an excellent cook and kept an immaculate home. She loved to work in her yard, play pokeno with her friends and walked and rode her bike until she was 75! She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James D. Putnam; parents; and brothers, John Day and Jack Day. She is survived by two sons, Phillip, his wife, Diane Putnam, and their daughter, Lindsay Klein, and Brett, his wife, Brandi Putnam, and their son, Blaise Putnam, whom Lucy referred to as "her baby." The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Joseph's Hospice and Old Jefferson Community Care for the excellent care and compassion received while she was a patient of both.
