She was born on Tuesday, March 4, 1924, in Frost. She was a retired school bus driver for the Livingston Parish school system. Surviving are daughters and sons-in- law, Jacqueline and Julius Wall, and Mildred and Harlon Cowsar; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Ratcliff; son, Darryl Ratcliff; son, Dawes Ratcliff; daughter-in-law, Helen Ratcliff; sister-in-law, Hollis Easley; grandchildren, Velvet Stanga, Jay Wall, Harlon Cowsar II, Timothy Cowsar, Michelle Kling, Tracy Bryson, Kim Hymel, Leslie Gardner, Christie Varnado, Buddy Ratcliff, Scarlett Smith, Ryan Ratcliff, Brett Ratcliff, Brandi Hill, Chris Ratcliff and Josh Ratcliff; 25 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by father, Drury M. Easley; mother and stepfather, Vinnie Watts Easley Leggett and Christopher Leggett; husband, Barney Ratcliff Sr.; son, Barney "Dewey" Ratcliff Jr.; grandchild, Donnie Cowsar; and brothers, Drew Easley, D.V. Easley and George Easley. Odis Milton Ratcliff Sr., 84, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at his home in Killian. He was born Nov. 7, 1921, in Bayou Barbary, son of the late Carl Schoefield and Mary Watts Ratcliff, and beloved husband of 64 years to Lois Redmond Ratcliff. He was a well-known political and civic leader in the southernmost portion of Livingston Parish, Killian. Surviving are his two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Gary Childers, and Judy and Barry White; seven grandchildren, Charles Abels III, Odis Ratcliff III, Kathleen Abels, Darleen Ouber, DeEtte Sollie, Scarlett Smith and Kim Decota; stepgrandchild, Garrett Childers; brother, Rudolph Ratcliff; and two sisters, Golda Barnum and Carolyn Traylor. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Odis "Buddy" Ratcliff Jr.; brother, Floyd Ratcliff; and a stepgrandson, Will Childers. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond, on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and at Killian First Baptist Church on Thursday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Ratcliff had served on numerous boards and commissions as follows: elected to the Livingston Parish Police Jury at the age of 23 for two terms; a member of Pine Grove Masonic Lodge, Ponchatoula, and also a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite; member of the Tangipahoa Beagle Club, and president of the Deep South Beagle Club; owner and president of R&K Creosote Co., Natalbany; subdivided and developed property along the Tickfaw and Amite Rivers; retired as chief deputy commissioner of the state Department of Labor; director of industrial safety for the state Department of Labor; elected mayor of Killian in 1988 for two terms; served on the board of directors of the First National Bank of Denham Springs (now Hancock Bank); one of the original members of the board of commissioners of Dixon Memorial Hospital; board of commissioners of Livingston Parish Water and Air District No. 1; jury commissioner of the 21st Judicial District; board of directors of the Livingston Parish Redevelopment Association; national board commissioner in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Safety Engineer's Commission with the U.S. Department of Labor; board of directors of Plaquemine Bank and Trust Co.; appointed in 1983 to Southeastern Louisiana University President's Council under J. Larry Crain; member of Louisiana Export and Import Commission; board of directors of Riverland Finance Corporation; board of directors of Louisiana Wood Preservers Association; served on the Import Commission for Livingston and Tangipahoa Parishes; and a member of Killian First Baptist Church.
