Mr. Guy Recotta Sr., age 83, a lifelong resident of Hammond, passed away at Richard Murphy Hospice House on Saturday, September 19, 2009. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond and was retired as owner and operator of "Guy's Quality Foods" on Cate Street in Hammond. He and his wife of 62 years, Ann Giacone Recotta, have run the store since 1966 after taking over from her father, Joseph J. Giacone. He served in the United States Army in Italy as a rifleman in the 85th Mountain Division until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, W.W. II Victory Ribbon, and the Army Occupation (Italy) Medal. Guy is survived by his wife, Ann Giacone Recotta, a daughter, Frances Marie Recotta; two sons, Joseph Charles Recotta, Sr. and his wife Artist McClain Recotta, Guy Recotta, Jr.; a grandson, Joseph Charles Recotta, Jr.; and a brother, John Recotta of Redding, California. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Demarco Recotta and his father, Charles Recotta. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services Monday, September 21, 2009 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church with visitation from 9:00 am until 11:30 am with a funeral service immediately following the visitation. Interment will follow at Rose Memorial Park Mausoleum. Arrangements are being handled by Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Richard Murphy Hospice House or North Oaks Hospice program both in Hammond. She was 79 and a native of Covington. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 10 a.m. Friday until religious services in the chapel at 1 p.m. Interment in Rose Memorial Cemetery. Survived by three children, Marie Dennison, Roseland, John Lloyd, Watson, and Denver Loyd, Amite; seven grandchildren; four great-grand- children; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Sara Jarrell, Talisheek, and Doris Jenkins, Franklinton; and three brothers, Ellis, Herman and Rene Carlisle.
