Ray Renton passed away on Friday, Aug. 31, 2007. Ray was born Dec. 17, 1949, in New Orleans, and grew up in Kenner. Ray was the son of Lois Renton, of Metairie, and the late Raymond Renton Sr. Ray is survived by his wife, Jamie Renton, of Hammond; mother, Lois, of Kenner; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Candis, of Covington; and sister and brother, Jeanne and Glenn, both of Metairie. Ray graduated from Mid-City Baptist High School in 1967, and attended Southeastern Louisiana University from 1968 to 1971, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in business administration. While at Southeastern, Ray was a member of the football team, and a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Ray married Linda Lopez, and their son, Chad, was born in 1982. Ray married Jamie Lundgren on April 12, 1997. Ray began working in the insurance industry, initially with Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. in 1971, and in 1997, Ray joined Kennedy, Lewis, Renton and Associates. Ray was an active member of business and community associations, with his involvement in the Homebuilders Association, board member of the Independent Insurance Agents of New Orleans, member of the Golden Acorn Society, member of the Jester Club, former board member of the Krewe of Zeus, chairman of the Irish-Italian Association and King of Thoth LXI for 2008. Ray was also a board member of Northlake Insurance Limited. Ray was a significant supporter of athletics at Southeastern Louisiana University, being a member of the Southeastern Football Players Association for more than 10 years, president of the Lion Athletic Association, and a member of the Football Coaches Inner Circle. Ray and Jamie made a Leadership Gift to the Campaign for Southeastern Athletics that helped return football to Southeastern Louisiana University. Viewing will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd., Hammond, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 11 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Procession will begin at 1:45 p.m. from the funeral home to Greenwood Cemetery, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, for a cryptside service in the mausoleum at 3 p.m. A reception will follow at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Marine Corps League Hall, 2708 Delaware Ave., Kenner. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ray Renton Scholarship for Football.
