Diane is lovingly survived by her mother, Myrtle Haerer Richard; sister and brother-in-law, Sue Richard Toledano and Larry L. Toledano. She will be greatly missed by her nieces, Dianna Ellison Polito and her husband, John Polito, Debra Ellison and her fiancˇ, Dan Jongeling, and Dawn Ellison Pyke and her husband, Craig Juneau; and nephew, Richard W. Ellison and his wife, Susana Montado. She was loved by grandnieces and grandnephews, Jessica Polito, Amanda Pyke, Kegan Pyke, Valeria Ellison and Richard M. Ellison; and great-grandnephew, Brayden Polito-Carlisle. She was preceded in death by her loving father, Ernest P. Richard. Diane was a lifetime member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and St. Matthew Lutheran Church in New Orleans. She was retired from the Louisiana State Department of Child Welfare in New Orleans with 32 years of dedicated service. Friends will be received on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home chapel, Hammond, from 10 a.m. until service at 2 p.m., with Robert Mader, pastor, officiating. A World War II U.S. Navy veteran having served in the Pacific, he was a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University where he earned a bachelor's of arts degree and later went on to earn a Master's Degree in Music at Louisiana State University. He was a retired music educator, having served as a bandmaster at Sulphur and Hammond High School, and instructed woodwinds at Southeastern University. While teaching he maintained a performing career with the Lake Charles and Beaumont Symphony as well as a free lance musician in New Orleans. In 1966, he was honored as Band Director of the Year, and was inducted into the Musical Hall of Fame at Southeastern Louisiana University. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, and her daughter Karen Pears and her son; his daughter, Beth and her family of Tickfaw; and his sister, Dottie Snoddy. She was 71 and a native of Lake Charles. Survived by her daughter, Mary Godeaux, Vinton; two sons, Carl Rogers, Topsy, and Carlos Rogers, Sulphur; three sisters, Elaine Chapman, Sulphur, Inez Louviere, Moss Bluff, and Irene Simeon, Lafayette; three brothers, Chris Istre, Texas, and David Istre and Ben Istre, both of Sulphur; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. HAERER Myrtle D. Haerer Richard, in the presence of her family, was taken to rest in the loving arms of her Lord on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at 2:51 p.m., after a battle with pneumonia. Myrtle, the daughter of Louise Georgi and Martin Haerer, was born May 2, 1915, in New Orleans, and relocated with her daughter, Diane, to Independence after Hurricane Katrina. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Ernest Philip Richard; and devoted daughter, Diane Carol Richard. She is survived by her daughter, Sue E. Richard Toledano, and son-in-law, Larry L. Toledano. Myrtle was a wonderful example of Christian goodness, patience, joy for life, with an endless capacity to love. She was the mainstay for her entire family with her dedicated faith in God. She was a lifetime member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, New Orleans. Being a devoted "domestic diva" of 91, she passed many of her creative skills for sewing, cooking, her joy of laughter, her humor, and her other God-given talents on to her children and grandchildren. She was "MawMaw" to her loving and devoted grandchildren and their spouses, Diane Sue Ellison Polito and her husband, Joe, Debra JeanEllison and her fiance, Danny Jongeling, Dawn Elizabeth Ellison Juneau and her husband, Craig, and Richard Wayne Ellison and his wife, Susana Ellison Montano. She was a wonderful and fun "MeeMaw" to her great- grandchildren, Jessica Polito, Amanda Pyke, Kegan Pyke, Valeria M. Montano and Richard Ellison Montano; and was idolized as "MeeMawMaw" by great-great grandson, Brayden Polito Carlisle.
