Religious services for Fred W. Ring, former commanding officer of the Hammond Army Air Base and Bombing Range, who died Thursday, January 12 at the Veteran's Hospital, Gulfport, Miss., were held Saturday from Grace Memorial church. Interment was in Grace cemetery. Born in Hopewell, N.Y. on June 29, 1908, Ring came to Hammond from Harding Field, Baton Rouge, early in 1942. He suffered from extremely high blood pressure; early in 1949 he suffered a stroke in Ponchatoula while on duty as a deputy sheriff, and suffered several similar attacks in later months. He was a member of the Hammond Kiwanis Club, was a member of Grace Memorial church, a Legionnaire and former manager and coach of the Hammond Post Junior Baseball Club. He is survived by his widow, the former Anzoletta (Zonie) Claypool, of Gadsden, Ala., who resides in Avalon Terrace; one son, Keith, 7 1/2 years; and one daughter, Michelle, 5. His parents and other members of his family preceded him in death, he being the last member of the Ring family. ***************************************************************************
