He lived an amazing and full life which took him to every part of this country and to many other countries around the world. He was born of Italian immigrant parents in Brooklyn, New York in 1917. He had to leave school as a teenager to help support the family, but returned to school as an adult to earn his GED, then a Bachelors Degree, and then a Masters. His love of learning followed him throughout his life. He started his adult life with marriage to his beloved wife, Hazel. They both became officers in the Salvation Army and served together for many years. After the birth of their two children, "Bud" and Jeanne, and service in the Navy Seabees in World War II, he began work in the field of electronics which became his lifeÕs work. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mario and Vita, his wife Hazel and his four siblings, Concetta ("Connie"), Mary, Nicolo ("Nicky") and Gracia ("Grace"). He is survived by his children, Mario "Bud" Ruggia and Jeanne Voorhees and their spouses, Tena Ruggia, Angie Ruggia-Kretzer, Sally Ruggia-Hayden, and Jerry Voorhees. Grandchildren are Russell (Russ) Ruggia and Christopher (Chris) Ruggia and their spouses; Claudia Ruggia, Michael Ruggia, David Ruggia and Mariangela Ruggia; John Voorhees and Joyce Uhlir and their spouses. He was also blessed with many beautiful great-grandchildren and loving relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Ponchatoula on Thursday, April 26, from 9-11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at the same location. He will be greatly missed.
