He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Rosa Giovingo Russo; and four sisters, Frances Castjohn, Maggie Stone, Josephine Ponce and Sara Corbett. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 9/20/2007 RUSSO, VINCENT ROBERT Vincent Robert Russo, M.D., who resided on Beechgrove Drive in Baton Rouge, passed away from lung cancer while at home on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007. He was born on July 12, 1942, in Berkeley, Calif., to Angela and Francisco Russo. He graduated from college and medical school at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Russo was proud to have completed his general surgery residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and his vascular fellowship under the guidance of Dr. Michael DeBakey in Houston. He was a general and vascular surgeon in Baton Rouge for 29 years. When Dr. Russo retired, he continued to work as a general surgeon at the Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center in Independence. He was a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and a member of the James Rives Society, Gulf Coast Vascular Society, American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association, Louisiana State Medical Society and East Baton Rouge Medical Society. Dr. Vincent Russo is survived by his wife, Anne Allen Russo; daughters, Elizabeth Angela Russo-Stringer and husband Scott Steven Stringer, and Anne Bratton Russo; son, Vincent Robert Russo and his fiancée, Allyson Quijano; granddaughter, Sophia Adele Stringer; siblings, Joseph Russo and wife Nina Russo, Rose Marie Bostwick, and Josephine Young and husband Gary Young; his late brother's wife, Vera Russo; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Emmanuel Russo. The family wants to express their sincere gratitude to the physicians, nurses, medical staff, clergy and friends, who cared and comforted Dr. Russo in his time of need. A special thanks to his friends who will serve as his pallbearers, Joseph Cefalu, Ross DeNicola, Michael Coogan, Terry Jones, Aaron Roy, Richard Ross, Greg LaNata and Leo Farmer. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with recitation of the rosary in honor of the life of Dr. Russo at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, at Our Lady of Mercy Church, service officiated by the Rev. Vic Messina, the Rev. Michael Moroney, the Rev. Charlie Landry and Deacon Richard Grant. Dr. Vincent Russo will be laid to rest in the Resthaven Garden of Remembrance following the funeral service.
