Jose' Antonio Salinas, Sr. (SFC, U.S. Army retired) 81, born January 9, 1927 in Mission, Texas, died February 10, 2008 in North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. Mr. Salinas was a three war veteran, serving in World War II, Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his bravery in the Korean Conflict. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Carpenter Salinas; sister, Placida Salinas Rosel; three daughters, Maria Del Carmen Salinas Gutierrez, Maria Angela Salinas, and Cynthia Ann Salinas Walz; four sons, Jose' Antonio Salinas, Jr., Ricardo Salinas, Jackie DeWayne Salinas, and Don Carlos Salinas, Sr.;16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his parents, Jose' and Angela Alanis Salinas; brother, Pablo Salinas; daughter, Patricia Ann Salinas Threeton; great-grand- daughter, Laura Alicia Ganza; and 2 sons-in-law, Frank Joseph Walz and Donald Ray Threeton. He was a life member of the Amvets Post 68, DAV Organization Chapter 50, and American Legion Post 258. Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son in Ponchatoula on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., with a religious service at 8 p.m. Interment and graveside service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday at Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary, LA.
