Auntie was born in Ponchatoula, Louisiana on March 9, 1915. She was a graduate of Newcomb College and served for many years as the Parish Librarian for Tangipahoa Parish. Auntie was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Ponchatoula and was the first woman to be elected as an elder of the church. Adele was preceded in death by her husband, R. Noble Salter, her parents, Albert John Bodker and Sarah Bendix Bodker, her sister, Alberta Bodker Hawkins, and her brother, Joseph Bodker. Auntie is survived by her brother, J. E. "Buddy" Bodker, and her nephews, A. J. Bodker, William Hawkins, and Edward Bodker, and her nieces, Dorothy "Cissie" Furr, Carol Carvalho and Mary Beth Marchbanks. Auntie is also survived by eleven great-nieces and nephews, seventeen great-great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-great-nephew. Visitation will be on Friday, September 19, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Ponchatoula beginning at 8:30 a.m. with services to follow at 10:00 a.m. Christian burial will follow at Wetmore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to First Presbyterian Church of Ponchatoula, 197 S. 4th St. Ponchatoula, LA 70454. Salter Dies at 78 Long time Covington resident R. Noble Salter, Sr., died Friday evening at 5:10 p.m. Salter, for approximately 30 years a legislative auditor, retired several years ago. He was a native of New Orleans and had attended Tulane University. His job had taken him across several parishes. The 78 year old Salter was the husband of Adele Bodker Salter by a second marriage and the late Ruth A. Collins Salter in a first marriage. He was the father of Mrs. Ruth Ellen S. Sevy and Miss Jeanne L. Salter, both of New Orleans, R. N. Salter, Jr. and Jack W. Salter, both of Covington. His survivors include 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Salter had been a resident of Covington and Ponchatoula for the past 57 years. Funeral services were held Monday morning from Schoen's Funeral Home with a Reguiem Mass at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment was in St. Joseph's Abbey Cemetery.
