She was born on Sept. 23, 1911, at Sweet Home in Dutchtown, La., to Henry Decoteau and Marie Landry Decoteau. She lived over a century because of her faith in God and pride in her Cajun Family. Her life was modeled after her mother's motto, "Peace at all costs." Her family was among the pioneer strawberry farmers in Ponchatoula and her father represents them on the Strawberry Farmers' Wall of Honor. She was a retiree of Sears Roebuck and Company on Baronne almost 20 years. She will be fondly remembered for her religious convictions, excellent memory, hard work, honest living, good cooking, quilts, crocheted afghans, and beautiful gardens. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband John Saltzman. She will join her siblings in heaven, the Decoteau dozen includes: Guilliaum Decoteau, Lucy D. Taylor, Molda D. Hebert, Constant Decoteau, Alice D. Duplessis, Remy Decoteau, Noah Decoteau, Rosemary D. LeBourgeois, Oneil Decoteau, Nyla D. Landry, and Leroy Decoteau. Other survivors include her daughter, Betty S. Dinicola (Paul), grandson, Jeffrey Dinicola (Valerie), great-grandchildren, Samuel Walbey and Kimberly and Theodore Dinicola, and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Ethel Shenall, Faye Arocha, and Janice Abadie for their tender loving care. Family and friends will be received at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula, Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the church. He was 73 and a native of Kaplan. Visiting at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Bayou Pigeon on Monday, March 21, from 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. He was born on Thursday, April 2, 1925, in Hammond. Mr. Saltzman served his country in United States Navy during Word War II. He was a fisherman by trade and carpenter. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Ollie Mae Murphy Saltzman; 2 daughters, Phyllis Scharwarth and Judy Saltzman and sons-in- law, Charles Scharwarth and Ron Coates, all of Ponchatoula; son, Stephen Stokes of Pensacola, FL; 7 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Buck was born on January 8, 1917, in New Orleans. He was a retired commercial fisherman and highly decorated WWII veteran. Surviving are daughter, Susan Kay Saltzman and fiance Gilbert Evans, daughter & son-in-law, Anita Saltzman Landrum and Steve Landrum, sons & daughters-in-law, Joseph "Billy" Saltzman and Yvonne Saltzman, Donnie Saltzman and Colette Saltzman, brother, James Saltzman, also survived by, 7 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
