SAULSBERRY, LAWRENCE 

MONTPELIER - Lawrence "Smokie" Saulsberry, 89, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at 
Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center, Baton Rouge. He was a native of Montpelier. 
Survivors include three daughters, Bernice Saulsberry Newson, Natalbany, 
Augustine S. Cummings and Julia M. Saulsberry, Baton Rouge; sister, Rosa 
Jackson, Holden; brother, Jordan Saulsberry, Montpelier; nine grandchildren, 19 
great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. One brother preceded him 
in death. Visitation will be at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, tonight from 5 
to 8. The Rev. Raymond Foster will conduct the funeral Saturday at 11 a.m. at 
Mt. Zion Free Baptist Church, Montpelier, and burial will be in the church 
cemetery.
