He was a native of Eastman, Ga., and a member of First United Methodist Church in Ponchatoula. Survivors include his wife, Jean Malcolm Sawyer, Ponchatoula; daughters Carla Sawyer Clark, Mobile, Ala., Linda Sawyer Poole, Longwood, Fla., and Wanda Sawyer Heroman, Ponchatoula; sister Martha Sutton, Macon, Ga.; brother Claude Sawyer, Lafayette, Ind.; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Ike and Ruby Lee Sawyer and brother Eugene Sawyer. Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m. at Geisler Funeral Home in Ponchatoula and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at Geisler at 1 p.m. The Rev. Nellie leaves behind her three daughters, Deloris Sistrunk and husband Edward, Carol Peters and Lynn James; son, Paul J. Sawyer, Jr. and wife Debbie, along with eight grandchildren, Eddie and Brian Sistrunk, Mark and Jay Peters, Janice Moran and Robin Payne, Chandra and Paul Sawyer III; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter. She is also survived by three brothers, Raymond, Ken and Don Prevost; sister, Dorothy Slade. Preceding Nellie in death were her husband, Paul J. Sawyer; seven brothers, Brit, Marvin, Ernest, Clarence, Floyd, Aubrey and Mack Prevost; five sisters, Bonnie Sherwood, Anna Robertson, Gladys Newsham, Genieve Robertson and Faye Lawrence; granddaughter, Kelly Jean Sistrunk; grandson, Andrew Peters; great- granddaughter, Krystal Peters.
