He was 24 and a native of New Orleans. Visitation was at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Visitation at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. John Gibson. Interment in HydeCemetery, Chesbrough. Survived by his parents, Saint Elmo and Kay Crawford Saxon, Kentwood; three sisters, Milissa Kay Pirnar, Auburn Hills, Mich., Teressa Lyn Gorman, Chesbrough, and Angela Sue Saxon, New Orleans; a brother, Christopher Elmo Saxon, New Orleans; numerous nieces and nephews; and grandmother, Johnnie Mae Saxon, Chesbrough. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Pinkney and Liliah Crawford and Saint Elmo Saxon Sr. He was a naturalist who enjoyed the beauty of a starry night and the splashes of an old river. He loved his dog, Easy, like his only child. He could look out into this big world and see things no one else could see. Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 12, at Greenoaks Funeral Home from 8:30 a.m. until religious service in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. and a 2 p.m. graveside service at Woodland Cemetery in Kentwood. She is survived by two sons, Roy L. "Rocky" Saxon II and wife, Joanie Saxon, and John R. "Ridge" Saxon and wife, Gail Saxon; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Saxon; a son, Roy Lee Saxon I; a daughter, Eleanor Ann Galloway; a grandchild, William David Galloway; brothers, Linden, Clarence, Gustave, Larney and George Daigle; and sisters, twins Eunice and Naomi Daigle, Velma Landry, Adine Gebhart and Mabel Plaisance. She was an active member of Kentwood Baptist Church and Goodwood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Last rites for John F. Saxon, Sr., retired sugar planter and a resident of Hammond for the past 24 years, who died Monday at home, were held Tuesday from Grace Memorial church. Interment was in the family tomb at Donaldsonville; the Poole Funeral Home was in charge. Born February 16, 1866 in Oktibbeha County, Miss., he moved Louisiana in 1889 to enter the sugar cane business at Burnside, where he resided until moving to Hammond in 1926. He is survived by his wife, the former Mamie Armitage; two sons, John F. Saxon, Jr. of Hammond and James W. Saxon of Mobile, Ala.; two granddaughters, Mary Margaret and Virginia James Saxon; and by several sisters, nieces and nephews who reside in Miss. She was born May 30, 1923 in Lauderdale, Mississippi, daughter of the late William and Sue Ethel Dunn Harris Dunn, and Beloved wife of the late Jack F. Saxon, Sr.. She was a member of New Beulah Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Helen Saxon, Jr., Steve and Peggy Saxon; three grandsons, Kent and Lloyd Saxon, and Matthew Reeves; and five great-grandchildren, Bree, Preston, Brooklynn, Cali, and Katielynn Saxon. She was preceded in death by her sister Gladys Harris Furr, and three brothers W.T., John, and Percy Harris.
