Woolworth, where she worked in sales, and a resident and native of Hammond, she died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. She was 79. Visitation at Geisler Funeral Home, Hammond, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Coverdale. Burial in Holly Garden Cemetery. Survived by a daughter, Mary Schafer Sloan, Prairieville; two sons, Henry Arthur Schafer, Hammond, and Steve Frederick Schafer, Hammond; a brother, Henry Gaude, Jr., Hammond; four sisters,Theresa M. Gaude, Hammond, Susie Gaude, Hammond, Sylvia Gaude Wiltz, Metairie, and Vickie Gaude Rogers, Ponchatoula; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Roger F. Schafer; three brothers, Joseph, Eugene and Paul Gaude; and five sisters, Loraine Gaude Drozd, Marie Gaude Jones, Willamina Gaude Rome, and Julliette and Wanita Gaude. She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond. ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 11/26/2005 SCHAFER, RAYMOND EDWARD Raymond Edmond Schafer, 84, died on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, at his home. He was retired from First Guaranty Bank and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ponchatoula, a past board member of North Oaks Health System, past president of Tangipahoa Port Commission, past company commander for Civil Air Patrol and retired as a colonel. He was a member of the Ponchatoula Rotary Club, the Tangipahoa Shriners, Ponchatoula Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the Hammond Executive Club. He also served as a board member of Southeast National Bank. Mr. Schafer was a veteran of World War II serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corp. He is survived by his son, Michael H. Schafer of Baton Rouge; daughter, Cathy Schafer Tricou of Ponchatoula; two brothers, E.C. Schafer of Moss Point, Miss., and Steven Schafer of Atlanta; five granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha "Lammie" Horning Schafer; a son, Charles E. Schafer; parents, Edward and Isabel Cuevas Schafer; and a sister, Helen Schafer Jones. Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church in Ponchatoula on Saturday, Nov. 26, from noon until the funeral service at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Bob Deich.
