He was born on Tuesday, July 23, 1940, in St. Joseph, son of the late Frederick and Laura Baragona Schauf. Mr. Schauf was a retired educator and librarian from the Terrebonne Parish school system, a member of the Terrebonne Retired Teacher's Association and Louisiana Retired Teacher's Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hammond, president of the Independence Lion's Club, founder and past president of the Independence Chamber of Commerce, board member and past chairman of the Independence Italian Festival, Charter and perpetual member of Terrebonne Fellowship Lodge, Houma, past master of Independence Masonic Lodge, 32nd degree member of Scottish Rite, Knights Templar of the York Rite, member of the Order of Eastern Star, past president and current secretary/treasurer of the Tangipahoa Shrine Club, member of Jerusalem Temple and also member of numerous other organizations. For his outstanding community service, he received the Louisiana Governor's Award. Surviving are his wife, Rose Marie Sinagra Schauf; sisters and brothers-in-law, Constance and Richard Malmstrom and Gretchen and Al Weidman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends will be received Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Masonic service. Visitation will resume after 8:30 a.m. on Monday at First United Methodist Church, 2200 Rue Denise, in Hammond until religious service at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Donakey officiating. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. on Monday in the Newellton Legion Memorial Cemetery, Newellton. In lieu of flowers, family request memorials to your local library or favorite charity.
