He was 82, born Feb. 20, 1923, to the late Frank and Leona Cardinale Sciara. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus John F. Kennedy Council 2952 in Hammond and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Scalia Schiaro of Hammond; daughter, Leona Schiaro Prugh of Hammond; son, Emile Wayne Schiaro of Hammond; two sisters, Mary Recotta of Hammond and Angie Galladora of Tickfaw; brother, Alphonse "Cotton" Sciara of Portage Ind.; five granddaughters, a grandson and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his two brothers, Joe and Vincent Sciara; and two sisters, Frances Sciara Orrell and Jennie Sciara Leto. Friends will be received at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 8 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Rose Memorial Park Cemetery, Hammond.
