SCHIAVI, DOROTHY BERTHA HUMMEL
Mrs. Dorothy Bertha Hummel Schiavi, 85 years old of West Chester,
Pennsylvania, a former resident of Hammond, died Sunday, December 30, 2007,
at The Pocopson Home in West Chester.  She was born on Monday, February 20,
1922, in New Orleans, LA, daughter of the late Coleman Hummel and Bertha
Peterson Hummel.  Mrs. Schiavi's memberships include Immanuel Baptist
Church and the Golden Age Club in Hammond, and Eastern Star in New Orleans.
She also was a volunteer at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.  Dorothy
retired after working for the federal government, many of those years at
the Small Business Administration office in New Orleans.  Surviving are
son, Joseph Louis Schiavi Jr.; daughter, Susan Schiavi Edmondson; son-
in-law, David Stuart Edmondson; 2 grandchildren, Natalie Kay Edmondson of
Conshohocken, PA, and Devin Schiavi of Portland, OR; and a niece, Janet
Drude.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Louis Schiavi,
Sr.; a brother, Arthur Hummel; and a sister, Marie Settoon.  Friends will
be received Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral
Home in Hammond, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.  Services will be held in the
funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. with Dr. Lonnie Wascom officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.  In lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Schiavi's honor to:
Immanuel Baptist Church - 1503 Pecan St. - Hammond, LA 70403.  You may
