The following day, Tuesday, December 4, 2007, his life was taken due to an automobile accident in Hammond, La. He was 21. Prior to Hurricane Katrina , Matt was a resident of Chalmette and had since relocated to Ponchatoula. Matt is survived by his mother and step-father, Noel (King) and Dwayne Rome of Pelham, Alabama, father and step-mother, Des, III and Brandy Schmit of Little Rock, Arkansas, one half brother, Andrew Rome, four half sisters, Rachel Rome, Lexis Schmit, Allison Schmit and Zoe Schmit, step sister, Brittany Rome and two step brothers, Max Morovich and Thomas Rome. He was a special young man and loved dearly by his maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Margie (Addison) King, formerly of Chalmette and currently residing in Ponchatoula. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Patricia (Ryan) and Des Schmit, Jr., great grandparents, Norman Sr. and Lillie Addison and Lorraine Ryan. Matt leaves behind two aunts, Sherry King, esq. and Donna King, his uncle David Schmit, four cousins, Kailey King, Kellie King, Killian Schmit and Ryan Schmit. His girlfriend, Danielle Valenti and his very best friend, Joseph "JoJo" Valenti also survive him along with many good friends and a host of relatives. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hwy 190, west of Hammond on Friday, December 7th at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home chapel Thursday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service time. Rev. Milton Martin and Rev. Barry Sutton will be conducting the services and interment will be in Rose Memorial Cemetery in Hammond.
