He was a resident of Diamondhead for 16 years, during which time he served on the board of the Property Owners Association, was an officer and vice president on the Board of the Diamondhead Community Association, was secretary for the local chapter of the AARP, as well as, managed the Monday Bradley golf group. As a member of the Most Holy Trinity Men's Club, Bert served several terms as secretary and as a committee member of the MHTMC Golf Committee. He was an avid golfer and served as the official sign maker for the club's Annual Golf Tournament, designing colorful signs and publications. Bert was an advocate of providing for the beautification of Diamondhead, preparing the 10-year Landscape Development Plan adopted by the POA Board. He designed and oversaw the construction of the front entrance wall of Diamondhead, prepared and implemented the first phase of the Gex Drive Landscape Plan, prepared the plans for the relocation of Tennis World, designed the master plan for the East Recreation Center and prepared the plans for the restoration of the landscape at the Country Club. Bert was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and attended St. James Elementary School, Jesuit High School and Louisiana State University. He was a licensed landscape architect, a certified urban planner and transportation planner. In 1955, Bert married Joan Ann Fossier, of New Orleans, and while attending LSU started a family. Upon graduation from LSU, he moved his growing family to Nashville, Tennessee working at that time on urban renewal projects. In early 1960, Bert was hired as lead landscape architect and became part of the design team assembled to transform Redstone Arsenal army base in Huntsville, Alabama into the design and testing center for the fledgling NASA space program that developed the rockets that would eventually lead to manned space flight and the moon landing. In 1964, Bert and Joan, now with five children, moved from Huntsville back to their beloved New Orleans and extended families. Bert sought and was transferred to the Mississippi Test Facility, later to become the Stennis Space Facility, designing the master plan for that facility. Upon completion he moved on to employment in New Orleans as a city planner and transportation planner. Bert retired from the Regional Transit Authority in New Orleans in 1998. Bert is preceded in death by his wife Joan and his parents Wilbert and Azalie Schnadelbach. He is survived by his sister Evelyn Treuting of New Orleans, LA, his brother Terry Schnadelbach of Gainesville, FL and his children; Keith Schnadelbach (Carole) of Memphis, TN; Cheri Escarra (Rodney) of Covington, LA; Bret Schnadelbach (Elaine) of Hammond, LA; Bonnie Schnadelbach of New Orleans, LA and Scott Schnadelbach of New Orleans, LA. Bert was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Matthew (Nicole), Jeffrey, Jonathon, Sarah, Rebecca, Benjamin, Rachael, Timothy, Corinne, Kevin, Tyler, and Spencer, each of which he loved, never to be forgotten. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 12'Noon at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Kiln Delisle Road in Pass Christian, MS, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road in Pass Christian, assisted the family with arrangements.
