He died as a result of a traffic accident just east of Hammond. He was 55 and an employee of Trimac Transportation. Douglas was a kind and generous husband, father, son and friend. He never ceased to try to please his loved ones. He loved Jesus with all of his heart, so we are comforted that he is home now. We pray that God will mend the break in the hearts of all who loved him and were blessed to be a part of his life. He left behind his wife of 28 years, Winnie G. Scruggs; mother, Mary Frances Morea; mother-in-law, Delories Franklin; father and stepmother, Carter and Velma Scruggs; brother, Michael Scruggs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Robin Messer and Rusty and Lynn Messer; four grandchildren, Brandon and Wesley Golson, Megan Romaire and Ryan Messer; two nieces, Sandy Harris and Crystal Ray; and a nephew, Dwayne McRimmon. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Terrence Songy; and brother, Larry McRimmon. Douglas was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Visitation at Wilbert Funeral Home in Port Allen was on Friday, July 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Saturday, July 28, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Richard Baker. Interment in Grace Memorial Park in Plaquemine. ***************************************************************************
