Joy Ragan Sheridan passed away at home Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. She was 88 and a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula. A cherished and devoted mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and service. Joy is survived by a daughter, Donner Nethercutt; son, Randall Sheridan; daughter-in-law, Warene Sheridan; sister, Lou Fitzmorris; and grandchildren Chad Nethercutt and wife Aimee, Traci Navarre and husband Heath, Meredith Nieves and husband Ramon, Jon Sheridan and wife Michele, Clayli Overstreet and husband Will, Deric Sheridan and wife Robin, Amanda Sheridan, Katie Sheridan, Valerie Hoffmann and husband Jim, and Michael Huff and wife Laura. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Clarence Ragan; husband, Deric "Pug" Sheridan; son, Scott Sheridan; brothers, Clarence "Spike" Ragan and Stanley "Hickey" Ragan; and sisters, Yvonne Triche and Betty Faye Watson. A lifelong member of the Ponchatoula First United Methodist Church, Joy served on numerous committees and was actively involved in the women's guild. For 20 years, she brought comfort to countless patients as a dedicated volunteer at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Hammond. In 2009, Joy was honored to serve as a grand marshal of the Strawberry Festival along with her sister, Lou. As an active volunteer with the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce, she thoroughly enjoyed her role as an "elf" with Lou on Santa's (Steve Pugh) float in the chamber's annual Christmas parade. "Ms. Joy" was happiest when doing for others. The family wishes to thank all relatives, friends, neighbors and caregivers for their outpouring of love and support throughout Joy's lengthy illness.
