A. 23 Apr 1954 Dec 2007 Jerry Nelson *************************************************************************** Obituary published in the Hammond Daily Star on: 7/24/2012 SHOEMAKER, HUGH THOMAS Tom (Hugh Thomas) Shoemaker, 59, of Cross Junction, Virginia, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, in Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Shoemaker was born in 1952, in Hammond, La., the son of the late Fred Sanford and Vera Mae Shoemaker. He was a Veteran serving in the United States Army from 1972 to 1992, including service in Desert Storm. He retired with 20 years of service, after achieving the rank of CW2. Mr. Shoemaker was a proud member of the Gainesboro Fire and Rescue Company 16, a dedicated mentor for the Frederick County 4-H Shooting Club, and life member of the VFW. He volunteered at Gainesboro Elementary School and Indian Hollow Elementary School. He married Julie Kay Getz on November 21, 1978, in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Surviving with his wife of 33 years, are two daughters, Heather Lynn Ludwick and husband, Jason, of Capon Bridge, West Virignia, Ashley Rae Shoemaker of Cross Junction, son, Hunter Austin Shoemaker of Cross Junction; two grandsons, Dakota Matthew Ludwick and Dominik Ryan Ludwick, brother, Donald of Florida; sisters-in-law, Brigitte Shoemaker of Raleigh, North Carolina and Rosalyn Shoemaker of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Frank Shoemaker and Ambrose "Bob" Shoemaker, preceded him in death. A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Military honors accorded by VFW Post 2123. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Friday, prior to the service, from 2-4 p.m., at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Shoemaker.] *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 11/17/2006 SHOEMAKER, MELISSA QUAVE Melissa "Dee" Quave Shoemaker, 89-year-old, died peacefully at Oakwood Hospital, Dearborn, Michigan, October 29, 2006. She was born near Covington, La., May 3, 1916, and spent most of her life in Hammond, La. She was secretary and bookkeeper for a certified public accountant firm through much of her life. Upon retirement she served as secretary in the Southern Methodist Church in Hammond. In addition to loyal church membership and attendance, Melissa was highly active in Eastern Star and Rainbows. After the death of her husband, she moved to Woodhaven, Michigan, in 1996 and became a active member of First Methodist United Church in Tenton and contributed greatly to the church's United Methodist Women. She is survived by her children Paulette Wilson of Woodhaven, Michigan, and Paul Shoemaker of Maurepas, La., their spouses, Dr. Joe Wilson and Peg Shoemaker, two grandchildren, five nephews and one sister, Edna Quave Jones of Hammond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Shoemaker and parents Chris and Lucy Quave. Her body was donated to science. A memorial was held November 4, 2006, at First Methodist Church, Trenton, Michigan. Those wishing to donate memorial gifts are ask to consider The First United Methodist Church, 2610 W. Shoemaker, 57, died April 8; funeral services were April 9, from Loranger Church of God; interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. He is survived by his widow, the former Lily McNeal; four daughters, Mrs. Catherine S.
