Survivors include one sister, Juanita Butler Brown of Baton Rouge; and two brothers, Charles Butler Sr. of Richmond, California, and Dallas Butler of Memphis, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cassandra Simms; three sisters, Florence Butler Barnett, Mable Butler Jackson and Ophelia Butler Lebran; five brothers, Oneal, Plassie, Bernell, Morris and Ivory Butler. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite. The Rev. Ernest Peters will conduct the funeral Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bickham AME Zion Church, Velma, followed by burial at Butler Cemetery, Amite. ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 2/9/2009 SIMMS, LINDA GREENHILL Linda Greenhill Simms went to meet the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, peacefully at home in her sleep. A resident of Amite, Linda was born in Clarksville, Tenn. She moved to Amite when her mother married Rich Hellmers, pharmacist and owner of People's Cash Pharmacy. She was a retired nurse, having graduated in 1962 from Baylor University in Texas. Linda spent many years working for longterm care organizations such as hospice. Linda blessed many lives during her career and believed it was her calling to care for people in need and spent much of her career working with individuals who were terminally ill. Linda was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Amite. She touched many lives by her compassion and acts of selflessness. She never knew a stranger and was a constant witness for Christ in both her speech and actions. She will be missed by her neighbors, friends, and family, especially her four children. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Hellmers; stepfather, Rich Hellmers, and father, James Edward Greenhill, who was of Clarksville. She is survived by a sister, Bertie Jane Greenhill Kilpatrick and husband John; four children, Chuck Simms and wife Vicki, and Will Simms and wife Elizabeth, all of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Meg Sharkey and husband Michael, of Amite, and Barry Simms and wife Sue, of Bristol, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Chaz Simms V, Gary Richoux, Tilon Simms, Noah Simms, Mandy Sharkey, Jacob Sharkey and Stella Simms. Pallbearers will be Buck Cefalu, Tom Ed Brumfield, Richard Kilpatrick, Gradon Clemons, David Vining and Jerry Lewis. Honorary pallbearers are Leroy Wilkinson, Shelby Reid and Delos Jones. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, on Monday, Feb. 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until religious service at 9:30 a.m., with the Rev. Dennis Walker officiating. Interment in Amite Cemetery, Amite.
