He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps having served in World War II, the Korean conflict, and during the Vietnam era. He was also retired from Infilco-Degrement, Inc. water treatment plant. He is survived by his wife, Joan Astbury Slason of Independence; two daughters, Hilarie G. Nealon of Herndon, Va., and Trudie S. Lamberton of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a son, Jim Slason of Salem, Ohio; one sister, Elaine Blais of Naples, Fla.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene P. and Margaret O'Neil Slason; and one sister, Margaret S. Volovski. A memorial service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond. ***************************************************************************
