She was 71 and a native of Coushatta. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 25. Visitation at Woodland Park Baptist Church, Hammond, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, conducted by the Rev. Leon Dunn. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Jim R. Sledge, Hammond; daughter and son-in-law, Valine S. and Kirk LaBorde, Prairieville; son and daughter-in-law, Scott H. and Melanie C. Sledge, Hammond; five grandchildren, Maegan and Meredith LaBorde, Ann-Marie, Amelia and Camp Sledge; and a sister, Pam H. Brown, Henderson, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Aline Moore Hankins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tangipahoa Parish Library or Woodland Park Baptist Church Building Fund. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in speech with minors in English and library science from Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, a master of science degree in library science from LSU and master's degree plus 30 with certification in education administration and supervision from Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond. She was director of the Tangipahoa Parish Library, a retired SLU Laboratory School librarian, supervisor of field experience and an adjunct instructor with SLU. She worked with the Louisiana Teacher's Evaluation Project as an outside observer with the state Department of Education and held a state license as an agent in property, casualty and life, and health insurance. ***************************************************************************
