SLOCUM, FRANCIS JEWEL 

NEW ORLEANS - Francis Jewel Slocum, 45, died Sunday, April 29, 2001. He was 
a native of Independence. He is survived by one daughter, Paris Slocum; two 
sons, Don Tar and Don Avin Slocum; his mother, Evelyn Slocum; seven sisters, 
Lillie Davis of New Orleans, Rose Wright, Joe Ann Lee, Elaine Sherman, Diana 
Barze, Helen Slocum and Mary Dantzler, all of Hammond; four brothers, Ernest 
Slocum and Earl Slocum, both of Hammond, and Otis Slocum and Calvin Slocum, 
both of New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Bickham; 
grandparents, Edora and Leslie Sibley; and stepfather, L.C. Slocum. Visitation 
will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 11 at N.A. James Funeral Home, 
Hammond. The Rev. Calvin Brown and Mack Jackson will conduct the service. 
Burial will be in Holly Gardens Cemetery.

SLOCUM, LINDA MURPHY
Died at 10:18 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2004 at St. Helena Parish Nursing
Home in Greensburg.  She was 56, a native of Logansport and a resident of
Kentwood.  Visitation at East Fork Baptist Church, Kentwood, from 9 a.m.
Monday until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Byron
Wilkinson.  Interment in East Fork Cemetery, East Fork.  Survived by her
mother, Ruby Stanley, Carthage, Miss.; daughter, Tammy Tackett, Kentwood;
two sons, Jamie Slocum, Kentwood, and Bryan Slocum, Center, Texas; sister,
Diane Sistrunk, Carthage; brother, Edward Murphy, Deadwood, Texas; and five
grandchildren, Travis and Mandy Tackett, Taylor and Kaden Slocum and Cole
Mooney.  Preceded in death by her father, Clyde Murphy; and granddaughter,
Jalyn Grace Slocum.
