He was a native of Independence. He is survived by one daughter, Paris Slocum; two sons, Don Tar and Don Avin Slocum; his mother, Evelyn Slocum; seven sisters, Lillie Davis of New Orleans, Rose Wright, Joe Ann Lee, Elaine Sherman, Diana Barze, Helen Slocum and Mary Dantzler, all of Hammond; four brothers, Ernest Slocum and Earl Slocum, both of Hammond, and Otis Slocum and Calvin Slocum, both of New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Bickham; grandparents, Edora and Leslie Sibley; and stepfather, L.C. Slocum. Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 11 at N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond. The Rev. Calvin Brown and Mack Jackson will conduct the service.
