He graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, Texas, in 1951, and Southeastern Louisiana College, Hammond, in 1958. He was a retired CPA, having practiced in the Baton Rouge area for many years. He was a member of the Louisiana Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Cleo Hudnall Smyth; sons, Bryan and wife Tina of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jeffery and wife Faye, and Niles and wife Carmen, all of Bradenton; daughter, Lois Smyth of Baton Rouge; his grandsons, Preston and Peyton Smyth, and Christopher Smyth of Bradenton; brother and wife, H.B. and Lois Smyth of Hammond; sister and husband, Ann and Jerry Benton of Tickfaw; and beloved sister-in-law, Mary C. Magnuson of Dickinson, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Northwest Baptist Church Debt Retirement, P.O. Box 14817, Bradenton, FL 34280, or TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Burial service was at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
