She was the third of the couple's three red-haired daughters and was known affectionately to family and friends as "Baby." She died on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Harry Snyder; and two sisters, Carroll Smith and Marwood Baker. She is survived by sons Marshall Snyder, of Nashville, Tenn., and Perry Snyder and his wife, Cindy, of Baton Rouge. Others who mourn her passing are her grandson, Scott LaFollette Snyder; a granddaughter, Sarah Snyder Keating, her husband, Aaron, and their red-headed son, Anderson; beloved nieces and their children and grandchildren; and her many friends. She was a resident of Hammond, a fourth-generation Presbyterian and a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church. She attended Southeastern Louisiana College, where she was a cheerleader and member of the Yellow Jackets. It was at Southeastern Louisiana that she met her husband, who was an end on and captain of the football team. Like millions of other members of Tom Brokaw's "Greatest Generation," they were separated by World War II. Her husband served in the Pacific while she remained in Hammond with their young son, Perry. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a community volunteer whose involvements included the Habitat for Humanity Store. She enjoyed the companionship of her East Charles Street friends along with the azaleas, camellias, birds and wildlife in her yard. The family wishes to convey its appreciation to her physicians, Dr. Nicholas Stevens and Dr. Katherine St. Amant, and her minister, Dr. Jim Stayton, all of whom Mrs. Snyder taught in Sunday school and whose parents were her friends. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Hammond, P.O. Box 726, Hammond, LA 70404, or to a charity of choice. Visitation will be at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd., Hammond, on Friday, Feb. 5, from noon until funeral service at 2 p.m., conducted by Dr. Stayton. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
