What a man! What a life! Ronald Clayton Spangler was born July 23, 1946, to Thomas and Christine Spangler in Hammond. Spike was welcomed into his heavenly home on June 13, 2009, having fought a valiant battle against CLL since 1994. Living forever in the hearts of his family he leaves behind: his wife, Dottie; daughters, Catherine Dehlin and husband Mike, and Carlyn Guidry and husband David; stepchildren, Julie Burke, Kenneth Burke and wife Rebecca, Courtney Aillet and husband Blake, and Micajah Burke; siblings, Don Juneau and wife Monika, JoAnn Bowman and husband Glen, Chuck Spangler and wife Sarah, Christie Kennard and husband Steve; and his very special grandchildren, Gabriel, Carl, Hannah, Ezra, Adeline, Jacob, Evangeline and Bailey. Spike was a 1969 graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. He was overwhelmed by his recent honors, Phi Kappa Phi membership and election to the SLU Alumni Board of Directors. Spike was called to the ministry at an early age. Then heeding that call a few years ago, he was ordained as a Missionary Christian Alliance pastor. However, he felt his true ministry was with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes with whom he worked in Tangipahoa and Livingston parishes. He was a teacher and coach at heart, having taught school and coached many teams, biddie ball, AAU and high school. A real "gym rat." He was a licensed Realtor, a certified licensed underwriter owning his own TPA firm. He was co-founder and board officer of Generations Hospice. He owned The Pretzel Twister in Mall of Louisiana. He was a lover of music and played and sang in various bands and choirs throughout his life. He loved acting, in and out of the theatre! He was a pilot and loved flying. Most importantly, he was a mentor, friend, son, brother, father and husband who influenced many lives. Life will definitely be a little less exciting without him. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. "It is well with my soul!" Visiting at McKneely Funeral Home, Hammond, on Monday, June 15, was from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Rose Memorial Park. Memorials can be given to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Tangipahoa and Livingston parishes or Generations Hospice in Denham Springs. *************************************************************************** File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/tangipahoa/obits/obitssur/spangler.txt
