Mrs. Spoonts was born in Wallace on Dec. 8, 1918, to Ulysse and Ida Marie Dufresne. She received an R.N. degree at Hotel Dieu School of Nursing and worked as a public health nurse until 1943 when she enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps. She served as a first lieutenant at the 7th Field Hospital in the Central Europe and Rhineland Campaigns. After the war, Mrs. Spoonts lived a life of service devoted to her family, church and community. Mrs. Spoonts was predeceased by her mother and father, four sisters, a brother and husband of 54 years, Lt. Col. Leslie Spoonts Jr., U.S. Air Force, Ret. She is survived by a sister, Ethel Dufresne, of LaPlace; a brother, Ulysse J. Dufresne, of Ponchatoula; a son, Leslie Spoonts III and a daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Horn, both of Fort Worth, Texas; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, San Antonio, on Sunday, March 30, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, March 31, at 10 a.m. at Air Force Village I. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Air Force Village Foundation in San Antonio.
