Stafford, who was of Cheneyville, and are now deceased. He is survived by a sister, Gayle Trellue Roberts of Atlanta; and two first cousins, Beverly Rose Dominique of Metairie, and Eugene Cunningham III of Hammond. Jimmy grew up in Ponchatoula and even as a young child showed a remarkable musical aptitude. As a teenager, he won the Shreveport Symphony Piano Soloist competition and played as a soloist with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. He also won the New Orleans Soloist Competition and appeared as a soloist with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. After completing high school, he spent his freshman year at Southeastern Louisiana College (now Southeastern Louisiana University). He went on to complete his bachelor's of music degree at Florida State University on a full music scholarship. After completing his bachelor's degree, he went to New York and completed a master's degree at the Manahattan School of Music. He played at several concert halls in New York City, including Carnegie Hall, and played concert tours throughout the world. James composed the then Southeastern Louisiana College fight song, the "Green and Gold." James passed away from congestive heart failure at the age of 66 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite on Thursday, March 20, 2003. He was a native of Ponchatoula and resident of Amite.
